Octavio made our trip so much more than a hike to Machu Picchu. He was so interesting, insightful, patient and kind. He went above and beyond when we accidentally left our passports in Cuzco. Octavio has 15 years of guiding experience and has travelled extensively - we felt very fortunate to have him as our guide. The trip itself was as described, and the farm stays with Alejandro and Enrique were wonderful. This trip fulfilled our expectations and genuinely minimized environmental impact and maximized return to the community. The walks were challenging but rewarding, perfect for the varied fitness level of our family and friend group (6 people). Highly recommend.

Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review Devi! We are very happy to hear that you had a wonderful experience. It was a pleasure to organize this trip for your family and friends. Octavio is indeed a fantastic guide: knowledgeable, kind and a great problem-solver as you could see. Likewise, Alejandro and Enrique are exceptional hosts. We also appreciate your commitment to the environment and local communities, as these are core values we deeply share. Best regards!

My experience at Chaparri was unforgettable and paradisal. Myself and my two friends felt looked after from the moment we were picked up from our hotel in Chiclayo. We arrived mid-afternoon but were still given lunch. Our vegetarian diets were accommodated (a lot of rice and not much protein - probably my one criticism, but certainly the food was tasty). Our wildlife guide was incredible at spotting and identifying birds, and leading us carefully when we visited a waterhole and had the once-in-a-lifetime experience of seeing a wild bear come to drink with her cub. We also appreciated seeing the bears in the rehabilitation enclosures and learning more about their care. The lodge itself was wonderfully comfortable. The central area has many resting spots, perfect for watching birds and relaxing in the heat of the day. I slept well both nights on a great bed and pillow. You can't charge devices in the bedrooms (there's a central charging point in the main area, plus wifi) but there is solar-powered light for when it gets dark. All the staff were welcoming and friendly. That includes the peccaries who like to hang around the place... I would go back if I could!

Dear Chantal, we are delighted to hear that you and your friends had a fantastic time at Chaparrí! We have taken note of your comments and appreciate your observations. Above all, we are thrilled to know that you had a great experience overall and that you had the chance to see so much wildlife, particularly your encounter with the wild Spectacled Bears in such a magical moment. We hope you have the chance to return someday! Best regards!

My wife and I recently spent the day touring Lima with Alternate tours, we visited areas which we had observed at a distance but welcomed the opportunity to better understand more about the circumstances and context of peoples lives. The tour was very informative and the people we met and spoke with were pleased to have the chance to talk with us about their life journey. At no time did it feel invasive or awkward. While it might be said the day was a little confronting our trip to Peru would not have been complete without this rather special tour. Our guide Alfredo was informative and well connected to the community. My wife and I are in our 70's and remain pleased to have stepped away from "tourism as usual " Regards Chris Bowman

Dear Christopher and Robyn, As you now know, Peru—and especially Lima—has many faces, some of which are often neglected. That’s why we’re proud to bring them to the forefront and offer a safe and comfortable way to engage with them, thanks to the support of our trusted local partners. Thank you for taking this leap of faith away from the beaten path and into reality. Best wishes!

The trip was very well organized. We were picked up at the hotel in Arequipa on time, and we had several interesting stops on the way to Chivay. On arrival in Chivay, our hosting family was already waiting for us. At the homestay, we were treated very nicely. We were able to learn about the way of life in Coporaque, and the food was excellent. During our stay and trip to Colca Canyon, as well as during travel to Puno, we were flawlessly shuttled to the transportation meeting points and passed from one guide to the other. Overall, very good experience. Jerzy Teterwak

Dear Jerzy and Urzula, What a wonderful surprise it was when you decided to join us for a second tour! Coporaque holds a special place in our hearts—it's one of our most cherished destinations. The families who form its tourism association are incredible partners; they deeply believe that their culture is their greatest asset, and we’re proud to support that vision. Thank you for choosing to travel with us again and for deepening your experience in Peru. It means a lot to us. Warm regards!
